I am cutting edge, I am cutting edge! Just last night, at 5:30pm, I was at my child’s K-3 school reading that VERY book to a group of children (authorized and condoned and approved by the administration). I asked the children to tell me how the penguin family in the book was both different and similar to their own families. What did they tell me were the differences? “They are penguins, I’m a person.” “They can swim fast, I can’t swim.” “They lay eggs, my mom doesn’t.” When I pointed out that Tango had two daddies. I got blank stares until one child piped up with “But they love each other!”
Not only is Heather a very, very cool mom but her parents do an amazing job of disguising the fact that they are flightless, iconic waterfowl. Nope, must be another Heather whose parents are flightless, iconic waterfowl — because I know she’s from one of those odd families with parents of different genders.
